John Mayer, Green Hornets Executive Director
 

Mayer was a longtime Green Hornet who participated in multiple sports while growing up in Arnold. A 2012 graduate of Severna Park High School, he played basketball and baseball under longtime GSPAA Executive Director Jim McCandless.

He attended McDaniel College, earning a Bachelor’s degree in History, before later earning an Associate’s degree in Architecture from Anne Arundel Community College.

Mayer worked at GSPAA under former Executive Director Josh Banks for nearly 12 years before beginning duties Executive Director in October 2025.

The GSPAA is the premier youth sports organization in the region, starting with a single sport in 1949 and now enrolling over 10,000 youth athletes in 17 different sports annually.
